The future of mobile browsing is certainly one of growth and technical advancement. With mobile devices like the iPhone pushing the envelope on what users expect from a mobile web experience, popular manufacturers will be sure to follow in order to stay competitive.
Apple developed a mini-Safari browser for their iPhone and Pocket PC devices use a version of IE, but until individual devices are equipped with a standardized browser that is compatible with popular programming languages across the board, special measures must continue to be taken for mobile sites vs. desktop experiences.
It is undeniable with the growth of the population vs. the number of available mobile devices, there is a tremendous avenue of possibilities in ways of communication, advertising, and overall market value. It is only a matter of time until major corporations really pounce on the mobile web as a major marketing platform.
