THE BASICS

DO NOTHING

Many sites still only create one site and don't plan ahead for mobile devices. "If the markup is meaningful and standards-based, some of the better mobile browsers are fairly adept at repurposing sites on the fly to fit the smaller widths of mobile screens" 1

That's all fine and good, but the website is not only resized, but the layout is forced into a linear presentation and images are optimized as well. It is up to the browser to decide how to display the site, not the developer.

A few disadvantages to this method would certainly be data entry in forms, slow network speeds bogged down by large images and excessive data. While smart phones render websites better than feature phones, they are not owned by the typicial mobile user. "If the mobile web is to become anything more than rich internet access for the elite phone subscribers, we must look beyond Blackberrys, Treos, and yes, iPhones." 2
